Allie Werth COM 202-Section 01 Final Exam December 16, 2015 1.Look at two or three of the stories that do not use â€Å"traditional† narrative structure and explore how the telling of the story requires the audience to create meaning and details—then,note how this open- endedness affects what readers may take from the texts The stories I examined that do not correlate with the traditional narrative structure are â€Å"Girl† and â€Å"Happy Endings.† Each story is written in a different narrative structure when compared with the traditional structure. For example, â€Å"Girl† is an ongoing list of commands, where â€Å"Happy Endings† is the letter grouping A-F. These short stories require the audience to create meaning and use details to understand and comprehend the story in several different ways. These stories draw in the reader by influencing his or her thoughts on what the story is representing and what is occurring by analyzing the language between the characters. The story, â€Å"Girl† by Jamaica Kincaid, was written using a list format and could also be considered a poetic format. The story starts off by saying â€Å"Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the color clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry.â₠¬  ( pg.320) It proceeds by listing chores that the daughter is required to do so she is pleasing everyone, since in this time frame this is what girls are brought up to do.
